| | | Re: Which insects? Is the Domino Field Guide of 2007 a reprint of 1. (below) Michael Chinery's Insects of Britain and Western Europe?
I agree with Doghounds recommendation, I have two similar Chinerys
1. "Collins Guide to the Insects of Britain and Western Europe" 1986 Domino Books ISBN 0 00 219170-9, the better one in my opinion
2. "A Field Guide to the Insects of Britain and Northern Europe" 1985 Collins
ISBN 0 00 219216 0 Zophomyia temula isn't listed in 1 or 2. Is it listed in the 2007 reprint? |

| | | Re: Which insects? Not sure if it is on the current list but I got my Collins Complete Guide to British Insects by Michael Chinery from The Book People at a knock down price.
The word 'complete' is a bit optimistic but it does cover the basic species of insects including dragonflies, bugs, beetles, moths, flies and bees/wasps etc.
The Aidgap ID keys are useful but are designed for use with a freshly dead specimen in front of you so you do need some good photos from several angles to successfully follow the keys. And some of their publications only get you to families, which is understandable with some of the larger groups like beetles.
However I have found them useful on many occasions, even if it is just to work backwards from a possible photo ID to get a double check. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
