| | | Rhagonycha fulva? Is this Rhagonycha fulva? Hopefully I'm getting the hang of this identifying lark now. |

| | | Re: Rhagonycha fulva? Doesn't look like it to me, but it is a fellow soldier beetle. Think it may be a Cantharis species. |

Would it be possible to tell us why this is C. lateralis please?

| | | Re: Rhagonycha fulva? Compared to the similar Cantharis thoracica which has paler hind legs as well as the fact it is still a little early in the month for it. It would also be benificial to know the habitat when posting images as C.thoracica is more associated with reedbeds and fens, compared to the meadows and sometimes bogs that C.lateralis likes.
solder beetles are relatively easy to ID as their colour is the main feature. Compare leg, elytra, pronotum and head colours. |

| | | Re: Rhagonycha fulva? At least I got the soldier beetle bit right. Trouble is my complete British wildlife book obviously isn't complete and they only had Rhagonycha fulva.
Habitat was on the edge of a meadow fairly close to a stream.
