| | | Couple of spittle bugs - cuties The first two pics taken at Stony Stratford Nature Reserve are of the same well fed individual. He or she is quite large (for a spittle bug) so may be a late instar?
Now someone will tell me that they're not spittle bugs   .
This one was taken in my Northants garden:

I can't help with the ID but i'm waiting with you for someone to help as i've seen a couple of these the past few days myself, great looking insects, i wish i knew more about them.

The first, I'm sure, is an Aphrophora species - one of the big ones. The other, though, I really don't know - too early a growth stage, I'm afraid!

I think it could well be Aphrophora alni as I see a lot of these during the summer months on this same wooden fence. Here's a pic from August 2008:
