| | Sales of insects in amber - Your Views! Hi WAB'ers!
I've recently come across an advert for a website that sells blocks of Baltic amber, each of which claim to contain an insect that's about 35-40 million years old.
What are your general thoughts about this sort of thing? Discuss
Take care,
Jason |

No I love it, the best pieces, the ones that are most likely to teach something to science tend to end up with the scientists where they should be anyway. But the rest are just fascinating and quite beautiful. I have a piece with lots of tiny flies in it and I love it though I still can't quite get my head around how old it is and when those insects were last in flight...... |

Beware of imitations!

Take care,
Jason | No problem with it as its too late to save them now LoL
They are very interesting and i remember when i was at infant school a teacher brought some into class and it was probably this that got me interested in nature etc.
We find lots of fossils nr our home and some amazing finds over the years, great for getting kids interested and hopefully they will grow up respecting our wildlife etc.
Cheers

| | | Re: Sales of insects in amber - Your Views! Most of these perfectly preserved amber fossils seem to be modern day insects set in resin. A perfectly preserved insect is worth alot more that £20 Ive seen them advertised for. So of them are so fake like the pair of scorpions lol. |

The settings are nothing special either.
