What is this white spiky thing?

I was out looking for galls yesterday and saw this white spiky thing on the underside of a leaf (lime, I think). I'm assuming it is some sort of egg case? Can anyone give me more info. Many thanks for your help.

I've found these on oak leaves. They're spider egg sacs - and should be easy to put a name to the spider if it's on oak (but I can't remember it at the moment!).

I have those too, I often see them under Camellia leaves. One at the moment is under an oak tree but the Camellia hasn't always been there.

Funnily enough I took a pic of one with a tiny spider near it the same as you have in your pic, but I deleted the pics as I wasn't happy with them! Now I will have to see if I can get more pics . That must mean the spider has something to do with the egg sac? If it has then it's a big sac for a tiny spider!

Paidiscura pallens. I found some of these last year on Oak and a spider expert id'd this spider for me. Sorry about the quality but she was tiny!

It use to be Theridion pallens if you're using an older book
(That'll teach me to stay in the spider forum - I come out for a look around and find this thread )

Thanks guys! That has salved my curiosity. I love the shape of it - reminds me of a sputnik gall.
