newcomer seeks id help

I found this remarkable website googling for images of grasshoppers - I've been here for hours looking at the photo's - looks like i'll have to pull my finger out to get into the Gallery.
Anyway I still can't be positive about the grasshopper or cricket I photographed, maybe someone here can help - are you happy to have this forum used as a lazy mans id guide?
If there no reply i'll assume you do!

I'd say that that is a Common Field Grasshopper Chorthippus brunneus, hopefully someone else will be able to confirm it.

Hi Phil, Thats exactly how I found this web site looking for a catterpillar.
I'm sure they don't mind if we use it as a reference point.

Definitely a species of grasshopper. Crickets have much longer antennae. Julie

Thanks for the welcome and the advice. I've looked at more pictures of Common Field Grasshopper Chorthippus brunneus and it must be right - found one photo that must be its twin brother........or sister.
