| | Damselfly for ID confirmation Hi Folks,
I would like help with the ID of this damselfly
There is no spine below the 8th segment which would suggest Coenagrion spp
Its a Female , dark form, and quite slender in shape which would point to The Variable Damselfly - C. pulchellum, can you confirm or suggest another line of aproach
I didn't manage to get an overhead pic of the pronotum, for confirmation,
Cheers
Duncan

| | | Re: Damselfly for ID confirmation Female Ischnura elegans form violacea (see the black antehumeral stripe), possibly maturing to the green phase ( infuscans) would be my guess
EDIT Or is it maturing into the andromorph (male-like pattern)?
LOL, don't you just luv 'em!

| | | Re: Damselfly for ID confirmation Dunc,
The insect in question is a Violacea(purple) form female Blue-tailed Damselfly
The neon blue segment near the tip of the abdomen is the best indicator for this species, it can be seen from some distance, even with the naked eye. |

| | | Re: Damselfly for ID confirmation Thanks for that guys I appreciate your help,
I have some great pics of Violacea, rufescens and all the other forms but this one threw me off the trail altogether
Maybe it was wishful thinking LOL

LOL, don't you just luv 'em! | I'm now thinking the latter (maturing into the andromorph form)
