| | | Bee sp. more help please.
I'm sure this is a bee, can anyone help me to name it please. As you can see it's tiny, about 6mm long. Thank you in anticipation. |

| | | Re: Bee sp. more help please. It's very worn but I will stick my neck out and say Halictus rubicundus, the wings have a wine coloured tint.

Janet | Is this is another feature of Halictus sp (as well as the reddish legs)? The image I uploaded yesterday and kindly id'd by Eucera (who I have just noticed is in India!!) does seem to have wings with a wine-coloured tint. I have just spent a while trying to find out more about thes solitary bees but there seems to be little on the web.

Richard | I don't think there's any easy answer to that. I think it's more often just getting to know and recognise small details in each species, but Stuart (eucera) may have more to say on that as he is the expert!
I uploaded a pic of a fresher H. rubicundus I took last year, this species has richly coloured thorax hairs. It's about the same angle as the one above, so you see how difficult it can be! |
