| | [ID] Hoverfly and Diptera... please! Hi everyone!
Two from today thanks! 24/5/09 1. Bee-mimicking hoverfly - V. bombylans? ...sorry for the quality - it wouldn't let me get close enough to focus! 24/5/09 2. Which Diptera family/species? ...vein M1 is confusing me... Note the orange-tipped scutellum
Thanks!
Take care,
Jason

| | | Re: [ID] Hoverfly and Diptera... please! #1 is Merodon equestris. I have had the same colour form around the last day or two and had trouble getting it too, got some good pics today though!

I'll look later, still haven't cooked a meal! I think you had another with a brown tip on the scutellum? Muscidae I think anyway. |

The "flu" looks like Muscina stabulans, good job you posted the front view as the legs are brownish. |

| | | Re: [ID] Hoverfly and Diptera... please! Thanks Janet - from a quick Google, it's a false stable-fly with the wing vein that threw me, m1+m2, being a good key to the ID! Bon appetite! | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
