#1 is Merodon equestris. I have had the same colour form around the last day or two and had trouble getting it too, got some good pics today though!

I'll look later, still haven't cooked a meal! I think you had another with a brown tip on the scutellum? Muscidae I think anyway.

Yes, Janet - the flu. That swine thing, it hasn't been in the news much, but I suppose there's been a lot of ...oh yes, no I meant Fly - quite right

The "flu" looks like Muscina stabulans, good job you posted the front view as the legs are brownish.

Thanks Janet - from a quick Google, it's a false stable-fly with the wing vein that threw me, m1+m2, being a good key to the ID!
