| | | Bombus hypnorum The Bombus hypnorum season is really cracking along now, and there are already plenty of sightings from new areas this year. Yorkshire seems to be doing extremely well, and we have also received the first ever record for Wales.
BWARS ( BWARS Home Page) are re-running their data gathering again this year so that a more complete picture can be built up of the invasion, establishment, consolidation and spread of the species in UK. The species has been in UK a mere 8 years and its spread appears to be very rapid. My contact details are available through the BWARS site.
The bumblebee is now well represented in the Gallery but a quick description of its unique colour pattern may help
Thorax: Ginger brown (can be from ginger, through rich foxy red to almost black) Abdomen: Black with a snow white tail
Good Hunting!

| | | Re: Bombus hypnorum Yep! doing very well in Hull. I saw my first of year on a lovely patch of Comfrey on the way to work
A small worker (about 15 mm). It is a truly good-looking bumble. But a friend of mine has a nest in his garden (in a nest box) and is having a lot of fun bumblebee watching, so I am envious!

| | | Re: Bombus hypnorum We've had several in our garden on the pyracanthas over the last few days. I had them id'd on another thread. They certainly are very attractive bees to look at but move far to fast for me to take a good photo. All the ones I've taken seem to hide the white tail
