Hornet down the chimney!!

I have just had this fly down my chimney and into my sitting room. It's a Hornet isn't it?

Scared me half to death!!!

It certainly is a hornet - and a queen too by the looks of things. Pitch it out tomorrow and it is unlikely to bother you again. They are looking for suitable nest sites at this time of year.

Thanks eucera, I wondered if it was a queen, it was huge! Already put it out last night but she seem to be struggling - probably got soot in her face.
