| | | Re: Extremely large Hornet Hi,
We had one of these, huge and very loud humming hornets, in the kitchen last week, and have had another one flying around the garden and green house today.
Is still likely this late in the year that they are queen hornets?
And also as we have had at least two and possibly 3 of these how likely is it that they are still queens?
Am slightly dubious that we will be plauged by these all summer, and not looking forward to the prospect. |

BK | They certainly do. I was done by one on the head two years ago whilst doing a veteran tree survey on a really old Sweet Chestnut. It hurt like hell and my head started to go a bit numb. Some on here might say I haven't fully recovered.
Cheers,

| | | Re: Extremely large Hornet I have just seen the biggest hornet ever, it was not like any other, Hornets generaly look like over sized wasps but this one was massive with a large yellow head and a deep drone , it looked like an asian hornet that I searched on the web but surley it cant be unless it got a flight over in a suit case!!
I know some will just say it was a queen honet but we are talking 3 inches here not just a BIG hornet. I think that we may see a few other odd balls that make their way up from warmer europe as it warms up but they will be knocked back for a few winters yet. I totaly understand this persons shock at the sight of her hornet as it made me and my wife stand clear but transfixed, and I aint fazed by these things easily. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
