Is it an Andrena? If ID not possible, what to look for? What are the best photo angles for ID? I could have easily captured this one as it seems to be 'sleeping' (jaws holding onto leaf) and the end of the day.

The face hairs, thorax and abdomen or back pic, tail end and back leg pollen basket or side view are all good ID pointers.
Yours is a bit worn but not quite right for A. nitida, so I would think A. carantonica. I think you had one for ID before?

Thank you Janet! I don't have a 'back end' photo. I will keep it in mind next time. I didn't get an ID from the last one, but it looks like it could be the same species.

A. carantonica looks a good bet for this one - there seem to have been a lot of pics this season! |
