large black fly
Ive seen loads of these over the last month or so - they hover around with (some of?) their legs hanging down. Just over cm long



ANy ideas?

Yep! It's a fly from the family Bibionidae, known as Fever Flies. You see the black outer-edges of the wings? Well, I believe this makes it a 'True' St. Mark's Fly. It'll either be Bibio hortulanus or the commoner B. marci - my money's on the latter.
