ID of insect laying eggs (I think!)
Can anyone id this insect for me. I thinks its laying eggs on long grass on the bank of the Thames in Berkshire. I believe the second photo is the same species, though the pictures was taken a few hundred yards downstream.

Yup, a Sialis sp; after the eggs hatch the larvae will drop down into the water to predate on other small aquatic invertebrates.

Thanks for the id & info, I didn't even realise it was laying eggs until I got home & saw the pic big on the computer!
