Weevil
I found this on the wall as I was going upstairs to bed last night ! 7-8mm long.

I think it is Otiorhynchus singularis. It is usually found on Silver Birch.

Thanks Laurence. I see from googling that it is also called the Clay-coloured or Raspberry weevil & that they feed on hardy ornamental shrubs, most notably, rhododendrons and raspberry, and can be a serious pest of the latter. Fortunately I don't have any in my garden
