New guy here, every year about April we get masses of these flies (if that’s what they are?) appear, they go as fast as they come usually lasting about 2 or 3 weeks, next year they are back again around the same time. Most people seem to think of them as mosquitoes but I don’t think so. Can anybody help identify them or tell me more about them, any information much appreciated, I would love to know more! Hi picky,
Looks like a Window Gnat Sylvicola fenestralis, they are harmless.

Thanks so much for that Janet, I live about 2 miles away from a sewage treatment works now I understand! They go as quickly as they appear, really bad for about 2 weeks and then nothing until the following year. Thanks again for your help. | | |
