I'm puzzled by this which was 10mm long and found under a stone near the river but not in water.  |

One of the Staphylinidae, rove beetles. At that size possibly a Philonthus sp but someone may know better!

Funnily enough I think this is a Stonefly nymph.

Definately not stonefly nymph. I think Paul is probably right as I have found a number of different rove beetles in the same area. None of my books have a picture of the larvae. |
