| | | Slug or snail of the day How long do you think it'll take for this thread to overtake the bird/mammal/insect/flower of the day threads?
My slug of the day is this black one found in Hurst Woods this afternoon...
I love the orange and black tiger-stripes around the sole.

| | | re: Slug or snail of the day Don't get excited Dave- I haven't got a slug of the day (bless you) but I do remember Hurst Woods! Seems like centuries ago I last visited there.

| | | re: Slug or snail of the day Great idea for a thread, Dave - very quirky! I sometimes see H U G E specimens in my garden that resemble snakes more than slugs! Will now be on the lookout to photograph these critters!
In the past, I've googled the different species of slugs I find in my garden (found some very interesting facts about them too!) and if my memory serves me right, the one in your pic ?Great Black Slug, is the least troublesome for gardeners as they mainly feed on decaying vegetation.
My garden is 100% organic - I leave all the 'garden pests' known to man to just get on with it, and I haven't noticed any detrimental effects - YET! |

P.s. I'm waiting for Ron to pop up and tell us that his "slug of the day" is a single malt Scotch whisky!

| | | re: Slug or snail of the day Very nice Cheryl - love the one that's rearing up ready to pounce! I think it might be the Yellow Slug - Limax flavus but that's just going by what's already in the Gallery.
My slug of the day is this one, seen at Crossness this afternoon...
I think he might be a netted slug but hopefully someone can confirm or correct that ID.
And there's a bonus point for anyone who can tell me what his little green friend in the last picture is. Here's a crop...
Dave P.
P.s. should we include snails in this thread? I think we should. There were lots of brown-lipped snails out and about today...
