| | | re: Slug or snail of the day Yes, it really made my day, its the most beautiful slug I've ever seen! Quote: |
Isn't it only found in in the UK in one or two Irish woodlands or something
| Err, Jason its only found in Ireland in a few woodland and upland sites in the south west.
The north is part of the UK but the south (Eire) most definitely isn't.....

Key features are the anterior mantle and the short keel which only stretches about 1/3rd of the way from the tail to the mantle. It should have two or three darker bands stretching along the body which I can't see in your photo as it's pretty much a top view.

In that last image only about one third of the foot is still attached to the leaf - amazing creatures!

Dave P. | Wow, that looks like the back-flip must have been breath-takingly quick - how on Earth did you catch three frames?! |

Jason - six frames per second helps!
Now if I can just find a way of getting the tutu to stay on...

| | | re: Slug or snail of the day I get 20 or 30 leopard slugs in my kitchen during the warmer months. I got so fed up of standing on them (slug juice is particularly nasty when between your toes), that I decided to put salt across the threshold (sorry - I'm a bad, bad, bad person ) thinking that would keep them out. The little blighters climbed up the wall and down the other side of the salt. I now keep my slippers on and have a deeper respect for the intelligence of slugs. Blech! |
