Psyllid with red and black striped abdomen
Northants garden. Help with identification appreciated.

Also does anybody know what the purpose/function of the genal cones are?

Also, there is a white blob on the abdomen visible through the wings - anyone know what it might be?

Hi Bruce!

I love the Hemipteras..

I'm not that confident with this, but may say Psylla pyricola... it's a female due to the extended, black abdomen I've just read.

Thanks Jason, I've taken a look via Google and it certainly looks very similar to Psylla pyricola. apparently the common name of this species is the Pear Psylla. Seems it's also known as Cacopsylla pyricola, I don't know which name is the more recent .
