I am unsure what type of moth this is. Found in Bristol near a tree border

looks like a dark form of Common Marbled Carpet - Chloroclysta truncata

Thanks neil. Whilst googling that moth I cam across a Dark Carpet Moth Chloroclysta citrata. Alot of similarities and the most common form sounds very much like my picture, was wondering what your view was on that?

Hi

the dark form of the Common Marbled Carpet is very common , sometimes more common that the "normal" form, and it is a very common species found in woodland s gardens etc.
The Dark marbled Carpet is a more local species and , I think, is more a species of moorland.
You have to look under the hindwing to separate them , I must have checked hundreds and not yet found a dark marbled, but I havn't trapped on the moors around here, I'll have to try this year
