Unidentified gall (probably)
Hi all,
I found this on an old dead leaf, it may have been hawthorn but I'm not certain. I am assuming that it is a gall of some kind, can anyone suggest the cause?

It was roughly 3mm in diameter and hollow.

I thought so too but didn't want to point Gerel in the wrong direction.

When the original message was posted I looked in Margaret Redfern's gall book just in case - none of the galls on hawthorn look like this.

Maybe a young fungus of some sort. Does not really look like an egg to me apart from the shape!
