| | | Capturing Insects Sometimes I would like to hold on to an insect, moth, whatever so that it can be photographed in better (for the photographer)conditions
What sort of containers are best, I use tins lined with tissue/moss but mr tupper must have something better perhaps? also what for short term feeding ,Iuse cotton wool moistened with water,or rosehip syrup
any experts out there ?(especially on jumping spiders,a mild narcotic like the ones people used to grow in the 60s) |

Most of the time I use Sterilin tubes which you can get from medical suppliers (familiar to some as urine sample bottles), or Blackman boxes from Watkins & Doncaster.
Your feeding regime seems good, you can buy a syrup for feeding honey bees (called Bee Happy, not sure of the supplier) but dilute honey or similar is good. One tip to slow the little critters down is to put them in a fridge (or freezer) for a short while, with larger insects you can stun them by giving the thorax a light pinch, although I wouldn't recommend the method to beginners. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
