| | | ID please, mint-eating beetles
Does anyone recognise these?
Found a group of them devouring a water mint plant in an Argyll ditch. Could find no more in the area.
Lustrous red-brown wing cases, black thorax. |

| | | Re: ID please, mint-eating beetles Once a year I lead a general insect walk on Bookham Common, Surrey (great for woodland butterflies: Purple Emperor, Purple + White-letter Hairstreak, White Admiral, Silver-washed Frit) + by the ponds we find Chrysolina polita + C. menthastri (bright metallic green elytra) together on Water Mint. Fabulous bugs. |

There are quite a lot of flashy leaf beetles in Yorkshire but they tend to be very patchy.
Anyway, one to be looking out for is the rosemary beetle (Chrysolina americana) - there have been other threads about this - which has spread beyond Yorkshire although not inland (apparently). I mention this because this year it has been reported from mints and various other labiates - worth looking out for wherever you are! | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
