[ID] Syrphid and Hymenopterans... please!!!

Hi WAB'ers,

I hope you're all having a good Christmas

Just some quickies - the last few from 2008 I think


1. A syrphid
A platycheirus sp.?


2. An Andrena... ??
Seen in July 2008. I'm not really expecting it to be good enough for ID, but perhaps...


3. Is this a distant Bombus pratorum?
I've of course heard they sometimes lack the thoracic yellow band... it's just faintly there


4. A Bombus sp. cuckoo?
The position of the white hairs on the tip of the abdomen look 'ruffled' - though of course it just be a B. lucorum...


5. Bombus... pratorum, lapidarius...
It has a head and thoracic yellow band, a yellow patch of fur on the face and a red tail... I initially thought B. pratorm but the yellow face is also a sign of B. lapidarius, isn't it? I have more of the back-end if it's needed

Hi Jason,

I agree with #1 Meliscaeva auricollis

#2 couldn't say, there's a little white striping on the abdomen, a guess at Colletes sp. but probably wrong!

#3 Bombus pratorum, probably a queen.

#4 Bombus terrestris, the bands are dark coloured although faded, and I can see a thin brown line above the tail. B. lucorum doesn't have that.

#5 I think all male B. pratorum, they have yellow on the face and can be very shaggy. They also can have a broken yellow band on the abdomen.
