| | | Megachile willughbiella? HI!
I think I have got this one correct. The male has orange hairs under his front legs, the female comes around at the same time while the male protects his patch!

A male resting on Forsythia 'Fiesta', guarding his favourite Lupin pad on 9th June 2008.
A male on his favourite Lupin pad on 9th June 2008.
A female feeding on Lupin flowers, she rarely stays still while in view and feeding but I have got pics of a female sunning and cleaning itself. Taken on 10th June 2008.
A female feeding on Lupin flowers, taken on 19th June 2008. This is a self set from Lupin 'Lulu' and probably crossed with a dwarf blue and white Russell hybrid. The tail end tilts as she feeds on nectar. She brushes pollen onto the orange hairs under the abdomen from the anthers, which on Lupins are near the mouth and quite small but I have seen it done with much more pollen from the Campanula species.
A female approaching a species Campanula, in this picture you can see nectar dripping from the mouth parts. Taken on 1st July 2008. The Campanula species mix included C. alliariifolia, C. incurva, C. glomerata, C.takesminana and C. primulifolia. This will be Campanula alliariifolia. |

| | | Re: Megachile willughbiella? Look as though these are M. willughbiella, although its not easy to see the shape of the fromt tarsus of the male. |

| | | Re: Megachile willughbiella? Thanks Stuart, I do have a pic showing the front tarsus quite well, but can't upload more pics until past midnight! I will do that then. |

| | | Re: Megachile willughbiella? I have a pic from the 9th June showing one tarsus, but I think this one shows both best. Both male and female were taking a rest on that day, it was sunny!
This was on the 30th June. |

| | | Re: Megachile willughbiella? yes... tarsi indeed... but these show the mid-tarsus rather than the diagnostic fore-tarsus I think!. In male M. willughbiella, these are massively expanded |
