| | | name that insect! I keep seeing a bee sized insect, it seems black with red wings. I haven't seen it other than in flight, so I cant get a good look at it or take a photo. I am in the south of england. Any ideas? I cant find it in any of my books or online. It could be a beetle for all i know. Help! I am going crazy i must know what its called, can any one help?
Thank you very much. |

Hi Alliepan and a very warm welcome to WAB!
Does it fly like a bee, with wings beating so fast that you can't see them? Or more like a moth or butterfly, with much slower beating wings (and bigger)? |

| | | Re: name that insect! Thank you for getting back to me. Sorry to be rubbish but its somewhere in between the two. Slower than a bee, but faster than a butterfly. The red is the same colour as a ladybird, its quite vivid. |

| | | Re: name that insect! Thank you for your response. Have had a look at the moth at a site online, its not that - its a bit smaller but the colours are right. Also the wings are smaller. Getting closer... |

| | | Re: name that insect! My partner and I (who have both seen it now) are going to say it is not a moth, looking more like a bee with a Black body, with red wings. Though the cinnabar moth looks very pretty, and I would now like to see one. It does not have a moths or butterflys wings.
The hunt continues... can you get a red bee? |
