| | bits of soil hanging from a thread? Hi, Ive tried to post these pics on the 'unidentified thread but as there was no box to tick in the 'quick upload' section at the bottom of the unidentified Gallery they've ended up on 'Forum images' , so anyway
are pictures taken in my garden today. I've never seen the like and am curious as to what it is. Its hanging by silken threads from the aquilegia stem above it. There seems to be some suggestion of insect like parts under the adhered soil particles but I'm lothe to disturb it lest I prevent it doing whatever it is doing.
any ideas?

| | | Re: bits of soil hanging from a thread? Hello Carrot and welcome to WAB firstly.
Well they're strange objects posted there! I was going to suggest caddis fly. But I think caddis fly 'tubes' are usually found in water so I'm a bit stumped unless of course there is a type that don't!
I shall be curious myself as to what they are and I'm sure one of our insect experts-poss Imaginos/Henrya will come up with some answers for you.
Until then-enjoy the boards and I certainly hope we see lots more of your posts.

| | | Re: bits of soil hanging from a thread? Wow carrot, what a good spot by yourself. I've absolutely no idea so far what they are but they are extremely interesting. I'd guess some sort of spider judging by the silken thread, but what do I know! I'm sure one of our members will know - the race is on.

| | | Re: bits of soil hanging from a thread? Gill has no idea either, though she is guessing moth caterpillar or crysalis only because they are quite good at silken strands aren't they some of them! | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
