Gatekeeper?

I just found this little fella/lady hiding in my privet in the back garden as I went on my nightly wander round .... I reckon it's a Gatekeeper .... any takers?

Hmmmm - I don't think so. It's missing the usual double wing spot.

The markings suggest Ringlet - but it looks too orange!

I'll go for Gatekeeper although the hind wings markings are slightly different from my book. Shame we can't see the forewing, that would give it away.

I think it's a Gatekeeper. Have a look at this shot by Graham for comparison. Although the colouration is slightly different that could be down to the use of flash. The markings are very similar.

I've got a similar shot of a gatekeeper that is orangy with the 3 light spots.

For my two penneth I would say it wasnt a Gatekeeper although i am at a loss to say what alternative it is?

although i guess it could just be that the wings on yours are folded down more covering the spots?

Thanks for all the replies, guys .... I still think it's a Gatekeeper - slightly too orange, I admit, but even though I used flash, the shot was a little on the dark side and I lightened it in Photoshop, so it may have increased the saturation a little .... and yes, I believe the forewing is just tucked in behind the rear, but at the moment he fled, I think I did catch a glimpse of the large black spot with white inners on the forewing, which would confirm identification I think, looking at the other examples given above ....

I would go for gatekeeper, they do vary a lot. Worth looking for on Gatekeepers are the little red mites that seem to pick on them.

Definitely a Gatekeeper. the two white spots are the give away, on the other side of the wing is the dark patch!
