| | | New Bee Book Thought people might like to know about a new bee book that's recently come out:
Bees of Surrey by David W. Baldock (Surrey Wildlife Trust)
Picked mine up at AES Fair yesterday where David was signing copies.. Fabulous photos. Not an ID guide but an atlas, but good keys, lots of good general info + probably useful to anyone in southern counties interested in bees as books on bees other than bumblebees are far + few between.
The whole series of SWT atlases are superb + a joy to use. |

There are old, and partial treatments in the literature, eg studies of the aculeate fauna of Hampstead Heath and the surrounding area 1832-1947 (Guichard & Yarrow, London Naturalist 1947: 81-111)
Bees of Surrey by David Baldock (Excellent), and The Bumblebees of Essex by Ted Benton (equally good) are about it at the moment but look out for Geoff Allen's upcoming book on the bees, wasps & ants of Kent. |

I usually help out on the London Natural History Society stand for a little while, so get there most years. We found a nice pub nearly opposite for lunch yesterday.
Cercopis is a fabulous looking bug- I see it occasionally, but not that widespread. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
