Looks like a White Admiral - normally a woodland butterfly

I'd agree and say that it was definately a white admiral, even blurred the pattern of white on the underside is unmistakable. They are quite a large butterfly as well (60mm wingspan)

I thank you both for the ID. It was taken at the edge of Friston Forest. Hopefully I will see another on my next visit.

White Admirals are only on the wing til the end of July so not too long left to see one...look for them in a woodland clearing or drinking nectar from brambles...would love to see your pics if you spot one again!...I'm jealous as there aren't any round my way
