Green and red fly.

I've just seen a spectacular fly on a sunny brick wall, today. It was about the size of a small solitary wasp. The thorax was a bright irridesent green and the abdomen a bright red. I didn't have a camera with me, but if the fly is special, I'll see if it's still in the area tomorrow and photograph it. I don't hold out much hope though - even if it's still there tomorrow, it was very active and difficult to follow.

Any pointers to the Gallery for a possible ident, please?

Sounds like a Ruby-tail to me too + often see them on walls loking for holes of their host species.

I think your lucky to see one at this time of year, there only usually seen on the warmest of days, i only see them in the height of summer and on bright sunny days ...
