| | | Ooh I feel really bad about this!! I noticed in my garden bumble bees going in and out of a hole, I panicked because I have young children that play in the garden, so I blocked up the hole (the hole was in the mud), I instantly felt really guilty.
Now there are about 6 bees trying to dig and find their hole, will they eventually be able to find it again or should I dig it for them?
I'm sorry if I upset anyone with what I done, but I panicked and reacted without thinking, only when I did research about them did I realise that they are relatively harmless. |

| | | Re: Ooh I feel really bad about this!! Don't feel bad badbeebuster, I'm sure they will find the original hole by themselves or simply excavate another. If you think about it we move things or dig in the garden all the time, and nature just gets on with it.

| | | Re: Ooh I feel really bad about this!! Yeah, they will bee ok. Bumblebees just go about doing there own business and it takes quite a lot for one to sting (and its only the females that can sting anyway). They are nothing like wasps. How about putting a load of twigs and branches over the hole and warn the youngsters to keep away (having kiddies myself I know this is easier said than done).

| | | Re: Ooh I feel really bad about this!! Bees is Good, yes. Just tell the kidlets to watch and not touch. Don't cover up the holes though - the bees have been to a great deal of trouble to find a place with the right temperature and in the open. Not all wild bees have the same habits! If you still feel guilty and can remember what you did, pop out into the garden now, in the cool dark with a torch (the bees will be dormant) and gently repair the damage, if you can. Don't do anything to disrupt the underground part of the nest though, or you might end up killing the lot. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
