| | | Honey bees Pleased to see lots of bumbles and 2 admiral and 3 speckled wood and a comma - butterflies enjoying my two large clumps of sedum in the garden. There are also lots (20+) of what look like honey bees on the sedum. They have a brown abdomen, not stripey like these ones New campaign to save British honey bee - Telegraph
Is there any way I can find out where their hive is?
And any way to identify them - the camera is a bit rubbish at such close range as they are quite small. |

| | | Re: Honey bees Nice selection of butterflies then! I'm yet to see an Admiral this year. I only saw one Comma - bck in February!
The bees you're talking about could be honey bees, Apis mellifera, but late in the season.
If not, please try uploading one or two photos for us; what you think is 'rubbish', we may still be able to make an ID from.
Does your camera have a button on it with a flower logo?
As far as the location of the Hive goes, it could be anywhere. I've heard bees go up to 10miles away from their home.
Good luck! |

| | | Re: Honey bees Ok, I uploaded them, I thought they would be in "my photos" but they seem to be in a general folder unidentified. In order for them to show in "my photos" would I have had to upload them to the Gallery? - Obviously I wouldn't have done that as the photos are rubbish. And yes, I did use the flower symbol on the camera.
Anyway the photos are the 5 red sedum photos on the top of this page - No_1 is probably the best. Unidentified - Wild About Britain Pics
As they are so rubbish can I not delete them afterwards? There doesn't seem to be any way to delete. If they were uploaded to "my photos" could I have deleted them?
I also can't move them from "unidentified" into "unidentified insects" ?

| | | Re: Honey bees I believe they are honey bees, Apis mellifera.
From an ID point of view, I think this one's best. |

| | | Re: Honey bees Thanks for that, I read they are agressive, but maybe only around their nest, anyway, I think I'll not disturb them.
Got some better pictures |
