As John points out in the following thread, the Square spot is very variable, and some of his examples look like yours (especially the last), so I would tend to agree with the ID. http://www.wildaboutbritain.co.uk/fo...2217-moth.html

It is definitely a Square spot rustic.
What book do you use as a guide?

Definitely a square-spot Rustic. A mind blowing variable moth that can come in almost any colour form.

My friend Bernard Skinner taught me very early on to 'look without colour' and just look at the markings, something I've never forgotten.
Colour may vary whilst markings/stigma do not/not much.

I agree with possibly the exception of some really dark forms. Then you really have to look hard even to see the kidney and ovals. Something mothers learn but newbies would miss.
