| | | Unidentified fly or wasp Stony Stratford, Bucks. On banks of Great Ouse.
Thought about maybe a male ichneumon?
Need help with this one. Size from iffy memory about 10mm.
Bruce
Just noticed that there are halteres - does that mean it's a fly of some sort?

| | | Re: Unidentified fly or wasp Hi Bruce,
I've never seen one like it, though I don't think it's a wasp.
I'll look into it.
Take care,
Jason |

| | | Re: Unidentified fly or wasp Hi Bruce,
That's an interesting looking fly. It looks to me as though it might be closely related to the tachinid Lophosia fasciata. I await Laurence's comments with interest. |

| | | Re: Unidentified fly or wasp Beginning to think it's not a tachinid. Perhaps a Lesser Dung Fly. Better leave it at that, the words clutching and straws are springing to mind. |

| | | Re: Unidentified fly or wasp It's a Scathophagid, Cordilura probably. I seem to have a blind-spot with that family! |

| | | Re: Unidentified fly or wasp I've only just logged on! Yes it is a Cordilura species. There may be enough detail in the photo for a specific ID. |
