I've removed 2 ticks from my cat this week, one on the surface of this coat and very lively - never seen one so close up before. Looked like a miniature crab scuttling about. The other was gorged but I used a drop of frontline and it dropped of so no fear of leaving anything behind.
Then following morning, after my shower, I noticed a new "freckle" on my leg, but when I examined it, it moved - luckily it hadn't fully attached itself, so brushed off easily and flushed down the drain.
I always thought May/June was prime tick time, but there are obviously a lot around now. My cat is 15 and doesn't wander far, so be must be picking them up in the garden. I had been out in our field the night before I found my "little friend", but even then, the field is bordered one side by a river, the other side by a deep drainage ditch, one end a huge hedge and the other our house, so we don't get much in the way of visiting mammals crossing it as they have trouble getting in. How do ticks travel - they obviously can't fly, so where are they coming from?
