| | | Expert needed  I have an image in the Butterfly Gallery which I named Grizzled Skipper - Pyrgus malvae as it fitted the description in my collins little gem.It was low flying and hard to pin down for a photo.I followed it up and down for ages and even on continuous shooting only got one image as it was pretty quick.Also it was brown with white markings.Some one asked if it was the marbled white but I checked my book again and that one is more black than brown and it says it is slow in flight so now I am puzzled
Here is the image I am no expert so I hope someone can put me out of my misery |

| | | Re: Expert needed Definitely a Marbled White - there is too much white for it to be a Grizzled Skipper. There will be some variation in blackness/brownness of markings - possibly depending on the age of the butterfly. As for Marbled Whites being slow in flight - well, in this hot weather, all butterflies have been in overdrive, so if you took it on a hot day...
