| | | Re: Small black bug After lookin in Chinery, my guess would be Orthocephalus coriaceus, which is very similar to the more common O. saltator, but the tibia are black, instead of the reddish brown of O. saltator.

Am sure this is O. coriaceus, the reddish-brown hind tibia can be hard to see on O. saltator, but your photo is definitely good enough to rule this out.
This is the least common of the two Orthocephalus and is local in grassland habitats across the UK. Where did you see this?

I netted it in a field of long grass behind my house in Caldbeck on the northern edge of the Lake District.
