| | | orange biter/stinger Can anyone identify an insect for me please? It bit (or stung) me yesterday on a golf course on Reading. I only caught a quick glimpse of it as it flew away, but it was bright orange, a bit smaller than a wasp, and the bite hurt a lot! The bite is now very itchy and hot, and a bit swollen over a large area, but has not gone hard.
I need to know if I should be worried about getting treatment! |

| | | Re: orange biter/stinger Difficult to make an identification on that description but could be ichneumon (not likely) or flesh / horse fly. What you describe is a histamine reaction to the bite. Antihistamines either topically eg anthisan cream or orally tablets) will reduce the local swelling and itching. If it continues to swell or remains enflamed get medical opinion as it may be infected.
