Woodlice

I have had a little play with focus stacking, and managed to get two Woodlice in focus together, there`s one in the background too, but out of focus, i know what the one in the foreground is, but what is the one behind it ? ...

Absolutely no idea but could it be a young one.

Yes certainly a youngster, not an adult of one of the smaller species anyway. I'm 98% sure it's the same species as the foreground one The little ones of Oniscus asellus are much more "granulated" than the bigger ones although I suspect we may also be looking at a little bit of stacking/sharpening or other digital enhancement artefacts here - partially?

Because of the granulation and the lack of development in the antennae etc it's quite hard to tell these little ones apart from the common rough woodlouse (Porcellio scaber) and some others, such as Trachelipus. The general habitus, shape of the head and most of all colouration - especially of the epimera of segment 7 - make me quite confident it'll be Oniscus asellus however. The remaining 2% doubt could be lifted with a dorsal shot, especially of the head
