| | | Help to identify flying bug Hi
We found a bug in my daughters bedroom that the cat was playing with. Its around just over an inch in length, the wings have quite an amazing pattern on them, and the legs and antennae are an orange/ red colour. We have kept this bug in a bottle just incase its not really meant to be here? I have taken 2 photo's, quite a beginner to this kinda thing, so hopefully will turn out.
Thanks for all help in advance. |

| | | Re: Help to identify flying bug Hi again,
I have been checking in my books and the large cells of it's wings are characteristic of the Hymenoptera,
Rs, M and Cu veins are incomplete so that could help to pinpoint it also,
hope someone else can help,

| | | Re: Help to identify flying bug It is a horntail (a kind of sawfly). Looks like it could be Sirex juvencus. |

| | | Re: Help to identify flying bug Thanks very muchly!
1st time we have ever seen one, which is why we was slightly scared as to whether it harmful or not. It humoured the cat for a while until we took it off her lmao!
Thanks again :-) |
