| | | Fly/Insect ID Please Forgive my ignorance, but my colleague and I came across an unusual fly on the window of a house we were working on near Haverhill this morning that had us puzzled. It was about 15mm lomg, was coloured black, transparent middle section, black back end, with a yellow band on its otherwise transparent wings. It looked almost like a plastic practical joke fly (but it wasnt!!).
Any help appreciated.

| | | Re: Fly/Insect ID Please Apart from obvious differences in the description, I would have thought of this fly's genus. I'm obviously not saying this IS the one, more that this species pictured could be related?
It's a similar size, black, transparent wings (as I gather they could be a prominant feature given the yellow stripe was noted?) and this has perhaps the same chance as a hoverfly of being found in that location?
