Shieldbug ID please

Found this one on a sycamore leave. The coloura are untouched but there seems to be a blue and yellow pattern around the edge of the case

Hi Ron,

It's the Forest shieldbug, Pentatoma rufipes. I think the yellow dot and dark colouring give it away.

There's no doubt about the ID, it's the Forest Shieldbug. P.rufipes. The coloured spot can be white, red or orange.

The shoulders give away the ID, there's no other Shieldbug that has anything similarly shaped.

Probably the commonest of all the Shieldbugs.

Really? I always thought the Common Green was. It was probably just the name though

This is certainly the commonest around me + probably the species most often found in gardens (certainly in the south).

Hello Jason,

I suppose it depends in how you look at it. Yes, the Green Shieldbug is often very common within it's range, but that only extends up into Yorkshire, whereas the Forest Bug is to be found all over the British mainland.
