It's most likely a female Syrphus ribesii |

Thanks Jason, checked some pics out on bioimages and it definitely looks like Syrphus ribesii. Always good to know what jumped into the photo shoot!

Yes, exactly. I'm not 100% certain but near enough; the more you learn about hoverflies, the more you see species that look similar! |

Really? I did say 'It's most likey' going by the general design, but I was confused by the eyes - they seemed a bit odd, and the first yellow bars on the abdomen by the thorax looked too 'sharp', but as I said the general design seemed to fit including the legs etc, so I said S.ribesii. It's a complicated genus of diptera!! | | | |
