It was quite large for a ladybird (approx. 5-10mm in length), so I thought perhaps because of it's size (and the distinctive white areas on the pronotum) that it was a version of the dreaded Harlequin Ladybird?

A conspicua variant of the Harlequin (as opposed to the succinea or spectabilis)

I seem to be seeing a lot more of these in my part of the country these days - haven't seen much in the way of native ladybirds at all  .
Hopefully it's because I'm not looking hard enough!
