Unidentified flesh-coloured bug

Stony Stratford, Bucks. On weathered fence overhung by mixed broadleaf trees located near large pond.

Size ~5mm. I'm guessing that this is some type of hopper (does that make it a bug?).

Help with identification appreciated.

I'm not sure what it is but that is one amazing looking insect . Looks like a larve though but what of unsure will be interesting to find out. Was it on any particular plant?

It looks like a leaf hopper larva. As to which one, I've no idea

tameblackbirds - Thanks for your comments. Yes I love these little characters. I see them most days but they are usually too fast for me. Usually they dash for cover at the back or under the fence rail as soon as they spot my camera. Actually it wasn't on a plant - it was on a weathered, wood fence. There are several trees hanging over the fence including ash and sycamore (and others probably).

Ashe - I see them quite regularly and I'm hoping that (if they are a larval stage) that I'll see (and somehow recognise) the sudden appearance of the adult form.

i hope you do come across an adult. Its definitely a nymph though. If you belong to flickr there is a group 'UK Hoppers'. The guys there may well be able to id it. Its so hairy that it has to be something distinctive but my hopper id ability is still at zero i'm afraid.

Excellent shot of yet another one of your 'get us all pondering' insects. I like these as it makes me learn and wait in anticipation for the next 'Bruce's Brain-ache Bugs' shot.

By the way-I think a leafhopper nymph of some discription too.

Jules - Yes I love some of the more unusual looking species too. Bugs and weevils in particular include some really amazing looking creatures, often blessed with the most bizarre body shapes and just oozing character.
