| | | Ringlet? New one for me today, my butterfly book isnt up to much, closest I could find was a Ringlet.Confirmation either way would be great....this is the only focussed shot I managed - didnt get a pic of the underside of the wings unfortunately..
Apart from the one above, it was quite a good day for butterflies today...saw my first Small Skippers of the year, and the most Meadow Browns i`ve ever seen in one day

The Ringlets don't seem to hold thier colours long soon fading and looking tatty.
Nice shot

| | | Re: Ringlet? Thanks for the confirmation Roger, it`s not a species i`ve encountered up here before. You wouldnt believe the effort it took just to get that one shot

Shirl | Thats a lovely conditioned specimen Shirl. As well as the one I managed to photograph I saw 2 others later on, and they were all paler than yours, like the one in my pic. I had to follow that one above for ages, and when I finally caught up with it, I had problems concentrating on the shot as 3 Deer Flies were trying to rip shreds out of my jacket sleeve - I dread to think what 3 of them munching on my bare arm would have felt like!!!

| | | Re: Ringlet? Thanks Mark
My problem is trying to hold the camera and focus with springer spaniels lurking around! There are quite a few really dark ringlets here at the moment, but I suspect it won't be long before they start to fade. Really difficult photographing butterflies.
