| | | Bee ID About 4 of these bees were patrolling a patch of clover in my neighbours lawn - only feeding every now and then on a suitable clover flower for about 1 second before moving on again. I gave up after about an hour trying to photograph one and eventually temporarily trapped one and fed it some honey to keep it busy. Body length about 10mm.

| | | Re: Bee ID Looks like it might be a very ancient male Melitta leporina. This species is dependent on Fabaceae for its pollen. Look for females, which resemble Andrena, and look to see if the pollen load is moistened with nectar. |

| | | Re: Bee ID Thanks eucera - have to say they all did look like Andrena sp bees but their behaviour was completely different. They seem to spend hours flying a couple of inches above the grass just inspecting clover flowers without landing until they somehow decide one has something it wants and then they land very briefly.
